The Greek Orthodox Cathedral was built in 1873 as a Catholic Apostolic church by Julius Alfred Chatwin. There was alterations in 1898 and 1900. Built in the High Victorian Gothic style. It had been a Greek Orthodox Church since 1958, and became a Cathedral from 1980.

The original Greek Orthodox church was in a church hall next to a Protestant church on the Pershore Road in 1947.

The congregations grew by 1951 and the first Green Orthodox Church in Birmingham was inaugurated in 1958.
