Ley Hill Park, Birmingham - A wonderful open space!

Ley Hill Park is 48 acres of beautiful hilly park and woodland, located in Northfield, south Birmingham. Featuring tree sculptures, wetland with boardwalk and the Merritts brook.

Ley Hill Park is in Northfield on Merritt's Brook Lane and Merritt's Hill.

A number of tree sculptures provide great features of the park and can be found at the top of the hill, in the arboretum area. This one with the face peering out is looking down across the field and play area. On the back of this sculpture these words are inscribed: "We play our games and the sky goes on”. Aptly, you have a great view of the playground from here!

There is a set of three tree carvings which artist Graham Jones named “Tree Eye, Glow and Twist. When you arrive you can start experiencing them from the lower tree, Tree Eye. The theme is ‘looking’. The tree eye conjures an idea of a tree being able to see all that goes on from inside the heart of the natural world.”

If you look uphill you see the “Glow” carved out of the tree and then stand in the right position (and maybe on tip-toes) and you will see the Twist through the carved hole!

Holloway Hall is to the west on Holloway. Close to that is a play area and the car park, photo below.

Another great feature is the Wetlands area. It has a fantastic boardwalk that doubles up as a viewing platform. There are a few signposts around the park that direct you towards this part of the park.

You may see some butterflies fluttering around and listening to the birdsong is lovely. Bees are a plenty round here and there are loads of plants and flowers to admire. There is also a tree trail that you can follow.
